Graduated with a bachelor's degree in oil painting from Hunan Normal University in 1987.

Creative Inspiration

Sanzi’s Shanghai studio, called "San Garden", represents the harmonious relationship between nature and art. His creations reflect the natural order of the universe and the cyclical rhythm of life, often inspiring clarity and enlightenment. His signature style combines the realism of Western oil painting with the expressive brushwork of Chinese ink traditions, forming a unique visual language.

The hallmark of Sanzi’s works is the recurring appearance of symbolic figures—faceless beings in white robes. These figures represent purity and universality, set against dreamlike landscapes of clouds and mountains. Through a fusion of traditional ink, lacquer, and oil techniques, Sanzi creates textured compositions that evoke both serenity and introspection.

Deeply influenced by Laozi's Tao Te Ching, Sanzi believes that simplicity is the root of happiness. His art communicates this philosophy through a visual meditation on detachment, nature, and inner peace. The use of faceless figures is deliberate, representing the idea that identity is transient, and all beings are intrinsically connected to nature.

Sanzi’s innovative use of mixed media—including oil paint and traditional ink—results in rich, tactile surfaces that resemble bas-reliefs. He often describes his artistic journey as a return from the mortal world to the heavens, saying: "I come from the sky, roam the beauty of the earth, and return to the sky."

His sense of creative solitude aligns with his namesake, Sanzi (meaning “Scattered One”), suggesting a life of peaceful detachment and philosophical wandering.
